What Do We Do? |
|
Environmental Noise Assessment Environmental Noise Assessment may include site acoustical survey involving ambient noise and vibration measurement, review of the existing or proposed site conditions (topography, landscape, etc.), and computer modeling to determine impact on the project site and/or construction. An example of this is a high-rise mixed-use project with property line located adjacent to a railroad track, and approximately one block from a major freeway. Our scope would be to provide detailed sound and vibration measurements, assess their impact on the proposed project, as well as provided useful and cost-saving solutions.
Building Shell Evaluation Building Shell Evaluation is typically conducted for project located within or in close proximity to an airport’s noise inclusion zone, and is based on local county or city regulations requiring conformance to prescribed Noise Level Reduction (NLR). In Las Vegas, projects located within the noise inclusion zone are required to meet prescribed NLR standards of either 25dB, 30dB, or 35dB NLR, depending on whether the site is within a 60dBA, 65dBA, or 70dBA noise zone. Building shell include the basic exterior wall assembly, windows, doors, roof-ceiling assembly, all vent openings, etc.
Building or Architectural Acoustics Building acoustics is all-inclusive and include space adjacency issues, partition design and designation, floor-ceiling assembly, acoustical finishes, and building systems noise and vibration control.
Space Adjacency
We will review the proposed interior layout and provide recommendations to isolate noise-sensitive space from noise-generating spaces such as mechanical rooms, elevator machine room, etc. In an open plan environment, we will provide recommendations for ideal furniture layout, barrier height, and recommendations for speech privacy.
Partition Design & Designation
Based on space adjacency and sound isolation requirement for each space type (e.g., office, conference room, IT room, etc.), provide wall designation that will meet prescribed ideal sound isolation rating (i.e., STC or NIC). Related items selection of sound-isolating doors, operable walls, and windows.
Floor-Ceiling Assembly
Review floor-ceiling assembly for ideal airborne and impact sound isolation between vertically adjacent spaces, such as between a mechanical space over a conference room below, athletic space over classrooms, or stacked condominium units requiring conformance to building code requirement.
Acoustical Finishes & Room Shaping
Acoustical finishes applies to the treatment of an interior space with sound absorbing, reflecting, or diffusing material for enhancing the acoustical performance of a given space such as a music rehearsal room or a recital space. Room shaping may include the aforementioned finishes but typically refers to the physical wall and ceiling shaping of various sound reflecting materials for sound projection and diffusion.
Building Systems Noise & Vibration Control
Provide review of all building systems mechanical equipment, duct layout, supply diffusers, return air grilles, electrical equipment (e.g., transformers, ballast, generators, switchgear, etc.), and plumbing distribution and mounting details for sound and vibration control. Inclusive of all noise and vibration generating equipment such as dishwashers, washers, fan-powered vav boxes, air-conditioning condensers, chillers, cooling towers, make-up air units, exhaust fans, elevator equipment, etc.
Field Testing & Measurement
SoundLogic, LLC is equipped with state-of-the-art digital sound analyzers, tapping machine, sound source, pink noise generator, dosimeter, and other related hardware and software for Field NIC(STC) and IIC tests, noise measurement, reverberation time test, and vibration analysis conforming to latest ANSI, ASTM, and OSHA standards.
Computer Modeling
PC based modeling using CAD, spreadsheet software, and other proprietary predictive software for evaluating environment and interior acoustical conditions such as outdoor sound propagation, equipment noise levels, room ambient noise level, reverberation time, etc.
Expert Witnessing & Construction Defect
We provide site review and observation services during construction administration phase to document that acoustical recommendations, specifications, and proposed installation or assembly details are adhered to properly. For projects in pre-litigation, or in lawsuits, we can provide third party expert witnessing services. |
