FAQ

Text Box: Why should I hire an acoustical consultant?

In typical high density housing, municipal, or commercial projects, an acoustical consultant provide you with sound design oversight and recommendations to ensure that the project meet or exceed all acoustic-related expectations such as noise isolation from probable environmental noise impact (e.g., railroads, freeways, airports, etc.), sound isolation between interior adjacencies, building systems mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems noise and vibration control, and room treatment for controlling excess reverberant energy buildup and flutter echoes.

When do we hire an acoustical consultant?

Ideally, a consultant should be hired once the project reaches schematic design in order for him or her to provide useful comments that will help ensure a successful project design, ascertain preliminary budget, design guidelines, etc.

Is one review enough?

Depending on the project. Typically, the consultant’s involvement is from start to finish, or from schematic design through construction administration. The value in retaining a consultation over the duration of the project include the ability for the consultant to provide much needed oversight in ensuring that recommendations are adhered to and applied to the design, installation details relating to noise and vibration are carefully followed during construction, and the availability to review submittals and respond to on-going Request for Information or Clarifications, site visits, etc.

What will it cost to hire an acoustical consultant?

The cost is dependent on the scope of service, the project type, it’s complexity, and the length of our involvement. Our hourly rates are competitive.

What is the payment schedule like?

In general, we require 1/3 deposit or retainer fee to begin the project. This occurs following the initial discussion where we assess your needs. The following 1/3 is due upon completion of our initial report, measurement or testing, and the final 1/3 is due upon conclusion of our final report. However, we will try out best to accommodate most architect’s billing schedule by phase. Submitted invoices are due within 30 days. Invoices over 30 days may incur a 10% late payment charge for each 30 day period where the invoice remains unpaid.
